The mission of South Branch Stories Inc is to uplift, preserve, and amplify the creative voices of Appalachian people by supporting the development of fictional moving image works rooted in the region's lived experience. The organization promotes diverse Appalachian storytellers who create narrative films, short form fictional videos, and screenplays that celebrate the culture of the region, explore social issues impacting Appalachian communities, and express personal stories with authenticity and self determination. The organization's purpose is to strengthen creative capacity within Appalachia while ensuring that the stories told about the region come from those who know it best.

The organization provides opportunities for local residents to participate in workshops, film productions, curated film festivals, and training programs focused on the creative, technical, and economic aspects of fictional media production. These programs are designed to expand access to artistic training, support emerging and seasoned creators, and build a stronger regional ecosystem for storytelling and film / media arts.

Our primary goal is to support filmmakers and moving image creatives in the current and next generation who are shaping the way Appalachia is seen, understood, and represented.

South Branch Stories Inc. is currently supporting the short fictional film “Me and My Daddy" set for production in October 2026 on location in Romney WV, Martinsburg WV, Charlestown WV, and Shepherdstown WV along the South Branch of the Potomac and Potomac River. The film is inspired by the literature of writer and sister of the Director, Ann Pancake.
